L’EAU PAPIER

"Start with a blank page. Let ink and ideas speak"

This philosophy inspired Fabrice Pellegrin to create L'Eau Papier for Diptyque, a fragrance recently unveiled on March 16. It features an abstract melody of mimosa, musk and blond woods.

With L'Eau Papier, Diptyque highlights the graphic expertise that has marked its history. Artistic expression, which has always enhanced each of the brand's creations, here becomes the very heart of the work. Imagine it as a starting point, a "blank sheet of paper and a black line at the origin of the creative gesture".

In homage to paper, the primary medium of Diptyque's expression, perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin delivers a fascinating synesthetic experience between scent and image, sight and smell. This four-handed creation, created in collaboration with French artist Alix Waline, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris and the École de la Cambre in Brussels, offers us a delicate work in black and white, skilfully playing with shadows and textures, constructed point by point and layer by layer. Unlike the traditional illustrations for Diptyque fragrances, it depicts neither recognizable figures nor landscapes, but rather an impressionistic, abstract composition in black and white.

From Floral to Woody, a Fragrance Inspired by Artistry

Eau Papier has several facets: floral, woody and musky. Its misty texture evokes the lightness of line on paper, while a rounder, creamier dimension reveals itself in the background. The initial flight reveals notes of bergamot and piquant touches, with a subtle roasted influence of sesame, a seed with coffee, spicy and gustatory tones, chosen by Fabrice Pellegrin to embody the ink. This gourmand touch adds an unexpected note to the fragrance, recalling recent trends such as Jardin à Cythère by Hermès.

To express the softness of paper, Fabrice Pellegrin worked on a rice vapor accord, drawing on the cottony suppleness of white musks and the powdery floral delicacy of mimosa. In contrast, the fragrance also exudes a dry, woody facet, evoking cedar and ambroxan. On some days, these textural interplays blend harmoniously, while on others they seem to be superimposed in two distinct scores, one soft and gourmand, the other vertical with the pencil effect of cedar.

A Contemporary Olfactory Masterpiece by Diptyque

Overall, L'Eau Papier exudes a vaporous, diaphanous, blurred sensation, reminiscent of iconic fragrances such as Bois Farine or Le Chant de Camargue by L'Artisan Parfumeur, as well as the finesse of L'Eau Duelle in eau de toilette. This original creation is driven by a modern style, with sesame, the cereal accord, and mimosa, resolutely contemporary notes.

L'Eau Papier has been available since March 16 in the brand's boutiques in Eau de Toilette concentrations, in 100 ml at €138 and 50 ml at €98. Sublime Magazine invites you to explore this new fragrance that celebrates the union of visual and olfactory art, a unique sensory experience offered by Diptyque.

The Magic of Alix Waline in Diptyque's Eau Papier

Ink artist Alix Waline wields the tip of her brush with dreamlike delicacy, creating abstract works in infinite shades of black. Diptyque naturally called on this purist of ink to shape the graphic universe of L'Eau Papier.

Alix Waline's precise gesture becomes an alchemy where each stroke becomes a poem, each shade of black an emotion. Her meticulous work perfectly harmonizes the vision of this fragrance, capturing the magic of ink on paper in a unique way. Thanks to her art, the essence of L'Eau Papier takes shape, fusing the olfactory and the visual for an exceptional sensory experience.

L'Eau Papier thus becomes much more than a perfume, it's a complete work of art, a celebration of creativity in all its forms. Alix Waline's artistic gesture is revealed in every drop of perfume, in every line drawn on the paper, and in every subtle note of this creation. A unique visual and olfactory experience.
