Louis Vuitton has unveiled its inaugural Malle Vestiaire in collaboration with rugby legend Dan Carter. As an esteemed House Ambassador for Louis Vuitton, Carter joined forces with the Maison's skilled craftsmen to create this unique wardrobe trunk designed specifically to house his cherished sports gear and keepsakes.
Drawing upon Louis Vuitton's nearly 160-year history of crafting exceptional trunks, this masterpiece is meticulously constructed using top-tier wood. It features Louis Vuitton's iconic Monogram Eclipse canvas in a striking black-and-silver color scheme, evoking the classic Louis Vuitton trunks with their metallic clasps, closures, and rivets. The Monogram Eclipse canvas is adorned with hues reminiscent of the New Zealand rugby team's colors and is embellished with Dan Carter's personal logos and numbers, including DC10 (his jersey number) and 1598, representing his international rugby point tally.
The Art of Savoir-Faire
Dan Carter expressed his sentiments about the trunk, stating, "On the occasion of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, we wanted to create a truly exceptional item. This Malle Vestiaire holds all the memorabilia that symbolizes the incredible memories I've gathered from my professional rugby career, while also paying homage to Louis Vuitton's renowned Art of Travel. I can't imagine a more fitting way for these treasures to be showcased than in this exquisite trunk."
The trunk's interior is luxuriously furnished with microfiber and fabric reminiscent of sportswear. Within, it houses a carefully curated collection of Carter's most cherished mementos, including his three World Rugby Player of the Year trophies, three Rugby World Cup medals, milestone 100th-test caps, iconic Rugby World Cup jerseys, his "retirement" boots, another pair worn during a Rugby World Cup, editions of his book "The Art of Winning," and a Louis Vuitton rugby ball from his 2019 collaboration with the Maison.
The trunk's five drawers are lined with microfiber and feature elegant white leather grips, while a spacious drawer pays tribute to iconic Louis Vuitton pieces, notably the Secrétaire Linge, with its woven cotton straps.
