KING SEIKO

The king gets his crown back

Recently, the famous Japanese watchmaker has resurrected a model with a sober and elegant design that reigned over its collection of toquantes more than half a century ago.

In terms of design, whether for cars, furniture or timepieces, the 1960s was a decade that saw the birth of some of the most beautiful references. In Japan, in the watch industry, Seiko set the pace, whether with its prestige label, Grand Seiko, or with more popular models. At the same time, another collection demonstrated Seiko's ability to create mechanical watches with high precision, excellent design and impeccable finish: the King Seiko line.

A stainless DNA

With the return of this label in 2022, Seiko is offering itself a new territory of expression, alongside its existing collections. This is not a revolution, but rather a reaffirmation of tradition. For the group, King Seiko embodies "the enduring design values of 1965 and the technology and engineering of today". Powered by a 6R31 automatic movement, the five new watches are inspired by a legendary model named KSK created in 1965. This was the second generation King Seiko that gave the collection its definitive DNA.

The current collection replicates the combination of sculptural, sharply angled lugs, flat dial, faceted hour markers and large razor-blade hands, providing a sober yet masculine visual signature. One of the new pieces is positioned as a direct descendant of the original KSK with its silver dial. The other four dials offer perfect legibility, in light gray, dark gray, brown or red.

A crown as an emblem

Just as sixties is the steel bracelet, which is also in keeping with the heritage of the King Seiko style of the 1960s. Its many beveled surfaces reflect the light beautifully. However, it is also possible to wear the watch in a completely different aesthetic register as five additional leather straps have been designed for this new collection. Last but not least, in order to celebrate the great return of this luxurious label, Seiko has designed a new emblem that can be found on both the crown and the case back. Sublime!
